How to Knit a Pi Shawl

Kath Andrews
Kath Andrews Designs

In this presentation, Kath will explain:

  • What a Pi shawl is and how it works.
  • How it's not a difficult as folk think.
  • How to work Emily Ocker's Circular Beginning (for an invisible cast-on in the centre),
  • Where to increase,
  • How to add lace sections.
  • How to get started knitting a circular shawl that you can completely personalise.

After watching the video:

Try Emily Ocker's Circular Beginning (following the video, or use the link to the left-handed video when you sign up for your freebie):

  • Cast on 9 stitches
  • Work up to 72 stitches

Once you can do this part, you can knit a whole Pi Shawl!

Kath Andrews
Designer & Knitting Teacher

Kath Andrews lives in North Wales with her wife and regularly takes inspiration from the Welsh landscape, language and traditions when designing.

Kath was a schoolteacher for 21 years, teaching music up to A-level, and her love of analysis and detail has translated into her design work and the development of knitters' skills through workshops.

Her designs have been published in the UK (The Knitter and Knit Now) and the US (Knit Picks) since 2012.

Kath Andrews’ patterns are clearly written and cover a wide range of knitting skills, from designs that gently introduce knitters to a specific technique to those that challenge and intrigue.

Her designs include lace, brioche, cables, and various types of colour-work, and she loves interesting construction.
