The Art of Estimating Yarn: Never Run Out Again

Hortense Maskens
Knitting with Chopsticks

One of the questions I see asked most often about knitting & crochet projects is

  • How much yarn do I need?
  • How many skeins do I need?
  • Do I have enough to make this project?

In this workshop, I’m going to give you all the tools you need to easily answer this question.

Please don’t let the math scare you off! I’m going to keep it to the very minimum and show you step by step! Plus, I have a calculator for you to make things extra easy.

Never lose at yarn chicken again!

The Art of Estimating Yarn: Never Run Out Again

Hey! I'm Hortense

My mom taught me to knit, one summer when I was bored on the beach at age 10. From there my love (some would say obsession) of yarn was born and I never stopped stitching.

A few years ago I started to dig into the online world of yarn and discovered so many techniques, constructions and concepts I had never heard about before.

Slowly I started to move away from following patterns until 2018 when I finally launched my blog Knitting with Chopsticks where I share my easy knitting & crochet patterns.

My goal is to break down knitting and crochet so they become simple enough for you to create exactly what you want, the way you want it through my patterns, blog, ebooks, courses, the Stitching Squad and events like this one.

Most patterns finish with: “Carefully block your project”. Have you ever wondered what that last sentence means? Or have you been like me for years and just ignored it and enjoyed your project as soon as the last end is woven in (or even before that)? Although being a simple process, blocking is often overlooked by new crocheters and knitters. Trust me, I get it, I’ve skipped over it for years until I finally took the time to do it and see the difference for myself. It doesn’t require a lot of materials or time but can make a huge difference in how polished and professional your handmade items look. In this workshop, I’m going to answer all your questions about blocking. What is blocking? Why should you block your knitting and crochet projects? What tools do you need for blocking? 3 different methods for blocking as well as the pros and cons of each one so you have all the tools in hand to block your next project effortlessly. FAQ + your questions!
