Watch Time: 22 minutes
I walk through:
1. What horizontal bust darts look like (a trapezoidal wedge of fabric made of short rows)
2. Their benefits (adding length to the center front of a garment to give room to the bust, and ensure the hem of the garment is parallel to the ground all the way around, (stops the front from riding up)
3. How to measure yourself the easy way (using bust cup depth as a reference for how much length to add, as opposed to slightly more cumbersome conventional measuring methods that often require the assistance of a friend
4. A breakdown of the different pieces of the bust darts on a diagram, how we decide the length of the longest and shortest row, and how much depth to add based on the amount of ease in the garment
5. Adding bust darts to your next garment (if following a pattern that includes them you can use the adjusted bust cup depth from the presentation to pick a cup size, if adding to a pattern that doesn’t have them: a reference to one of my blog posts that walks you through all the math, OR CTA to click the link below for the free bust dart calculator
6. Showing how to use the bust dart calculator
7. Bonus slide with how to adjust bust darts if working 3 different kinds of textured garments. My tripwire will be a link to a bust dart calculator specialized in textured knits

Céline Feyten Designs • Knitwear Designer
My name is Céline and I’m a knitwear designer committed to great fit and helping knitters grow their knitting practice.
Everything I do is meant to inspire confidence. Confidence in our knitting and how we feel when wearing our knits, regardless of race, gender, or sexuality. Most of my garments are designed and graded with a women’s size chart, but I do my best to include modification guidance to serve a more diverse set of bodies. I’m always in pursuit of the perfect fit.
My designs are thorough, so you can dive in with confidence, knowing you’re well supported. They include construction overviews, schematics, links to special technique videos, and modification guidance… and if you still need a little extra help? I’m just an email away with prompt pattern support.

This is a great chance to try out bust darts in a few different garment types, like pullovers, bralettes, and cardigans, without having to do any of the math.
